MINING NOTES.

RUSH FOR GOLD SHARES.

Following or» the sharp upward move- ment In overseas price of gold, all stocks under this heading enjoyed a day of buoyant and active trading on the Bris- bane Stock Exchange yesterday. Buying was animated and prices quickly soared until new high levels were reached in several stocks, the movement being sus- tained tu the end, Trading was spread over a çood range of stocks, the price fluctuations for one day being the most substantial for some time. On a, strong rise oí 2/6 to 95/6 for Bulolo Gold, buyers were unable to locate any sellers. After a small lot of Golden Mile had sold at 4/3, buyers offered to 4/4 for further sup- plies, with sellers then asking 4/6, a Btrong advance to 24/6 for Golden Plateau finding sellers asking 25/3. Placer Devel- opment received Inquiry 15/ above the previous day at £14/2/6, but sellers held out for £14/10/, the placing of a parcel of Now Guinea Goldfields at 0/114 show- ing an Improvement of 4,,i>d, closing at S/-9/3. Outstanding (i) the group was the strong inquiry for Mount Morgan, and buyers at the close paid up to 43/9 for a parcel, after opening sales had taken place at 43/, showing a rise of 3/9, Raub Australian also made headway on Increased inquiry at 21/6, with sellers at 21/9, forward sales ope month going through up to 21/9.

DEVELOPMENT AT MT. COOLON.

A progress report of Mount Coolon Gold Mines, N.L., for the fortnight ended August 22. received from Melbourne, states:

The No. 4 level has been advanced east- wards 20 feet to a total of 263 feet from the centre of the crosscut from the main Shaft. Westwards It has been advanced four feet to a total of 183 feet from the same point. The average values reported In the east drive are: At 250 feet, 2/ a ton over a width of nine feet; at 255 feet. 13/ a ton over a width of four and a half feet. The full face Is in quartz, and the hanging wal) Is not exposed

Crosscuts were commenced at 245 feet east from the centre of the crosscut from the main shaft. The footwall cross- cut was advanced J7 feet to a total of 20 feet from the centre of the drive with the face in country; the assay value from 0 to 6 feet Is 17/ a ton, and from 6 to 20 feet ntl. The hanging wall crosscut was advanced 13 feet to a total of 16 feet from the centre of the drive with the face In country; the assay value from 0 to 12 feet Is 3/6 a ton and from 12 to 16 feet nil.

A footwall crosscut was commenced at 180ft. west from tile centre of the cross- cut from the main shaft, and has been advanced 36ft. to a total oí 39ft. from the centre of the drive. The assay value from 4ft. to 28ft. Is 6/ a ton; the face is in lode formation.

No. 2 level east drive has been advanced 46ft. to a total of 361ft. eastwards from the centre of the led shaft. The average value from 328ft. to 349ft. is 12/ a ton over an average width of 6ft. The reef ¡s 2ft. wldo In the face, and both nails are exposed.

TRANSFER Ol' MT. 1S\ SHARES.

The Sydney manager and secretary of Mount Isa Mines, Ltd., advises that his company has allotted to the Mining Trust, Ltd.. 150,000 shares of £1 each, numbered 1.295.801 to 1,445,800, credited as fully paid up, as part consideration for. the purchase of that compony's interest In certain leases, also as consideration for the purchase of certain diamond-drilling equipment and for services rendered by that company In arranging certain finances lor Mount Isa Mines, Ltd.

NORSEMAN MINE.

The following telegram was received yesterday from the manager of the Norse- man mine. West Australia: At the 470ft. level No. 1 winze north has been sunk 10ft., to a total of 70ft. the value being Jl/6 over the width of the winze, 4ft., with quartz remaining on both walls. The Bin crosscut ha« been extended 17ft. to 42ft, At the S70ft. level In the north and south drives the \alues of the present faces are: North 32/6, south 33/6, over the width of the drives. 6ft. A crosscut east from the 570ft, plat has been com

menced, and extended 26ft., and has cut 3ft, of quartz at 15ft., of a value of 9/. Cleaning out Is now being done to commence the work of sinking the shaft a further 30ft, for a sump. Rain was falling when the message wog sent.

SULPHIDE CORPORATION, LTD.

During the six weeks ended August 12 a total of 17.58B tons of material was treated at the central mine of Sulphide Corporation, Ltd., Broken Hill, with the following results:-Lead concentrates pro- duced, 2761 tons, assaying 56oz. of silver, 74.4 per cent, of lead, aud 4.4 per cent, of zinc; zinc concentrates produced, 4023 tons, assaying 3.4oz. of silver, 1,4 per cent. Of lead, and 53 per cent, of zinc.

GYMPIE.

GYMPIE, August 28,

The manager of the New London Syn- dicate (Mr. A. Black) reports as follows: "Since my last report on July 27 the Intermediate drive at the 82ft. level has been driven 8ft. on the hanging wall country, which Is showing nice Black rock and plumbago floors, There Is about half-an-lnoh of quartz on the wall, which seems to be making. At the 100ft. level about 20ft, south from tbB winze we pick- ed up the reef In 6ft. of crosseuttlmr. The footwall country Is grey, and only a few colouis of gold were seen. Owing to sickness full time has not been work- ed below. The pump was also Idle for two days through a breakdown."

GOLDEN PLATEAU SUNRISE.

A telegram received by the Brisbane Stock Exchange yesterday states that in the Golden Plateau Sunrise the west drive Is 253 feet, all lode, the value being 10s. The south crosscut at 223 feet shows values of £1 to £1/10/. The trench west of the shaft is In 5 feet of lode, the value being £3. The main tunnel has been extended 14 feet, all lode, with a value of 8/, the west drive shows a value of 16/ and the north crosscut off the west drive, all lode, of a valuo of io/.
