BOMB EXPLODED UNDER
VERANDA.
Attack On Home of Northern
Crown Prosecutor.
TOWNSVILLE, September 20.
A bomb was exploded at the home of Mr. J. P. Quinn, Crown Prosecutor, in Sussex Street, Hyde Park, early this morning. Although the explosion took place under the veranda, where Mr. and Mrs. Quinn were sleeping, all the six occupants of the house escaped injury,
At 1.35 o'clock this morning, a ter- rific explosion awakened the house- hold. The explosion was heard two miles away. Its force lifted the floor- ing boards of the veranda off the joists, at the same time lifting the bed, which, as it settled down again with its amazed occupants, collapsed. The atmosphere was clouded with dust and smoke.
Detective Harold, who lives in the vicinity, was early on the scene, and investigations were made rapidly. It was discovered that the perpetrators had carefully thought out their plans, avoiding risk of disturbing the several Airedales which Mr. Quinn has in kennels under the house.
It is believed that the Intruders, after passing through the yard of the home next door, that of Mr. R. M.
McNickle, climbed the dividing fence, and placed the explosive, with a long fuse attached, under the house imme- diately beneath where Mr. Quinn and his wife were sleeping.
PRIZE FOWLS SUFFER.
The damage, in addition to the broken flooring boards and bed, in- cluded a broken window and the loss of a prize fowl, kept in a special pen under the house. A fragment of the bomb cut through the wire netting of the pen and knocked the head off the bird. Another prize fowl also suffered.
The escape of the occupants of the house is attributed to the fact that the building is high from the ground.
Two men were questioned at the police station, but so far no arrest has been made.
