THIEVES IN SUBURBS
TABERNACLE DOOR
STOLEN
A tabernacle door finished in gold enamel was stolen from the Holy Spirit Church in Villiers Street, New Farm, on Tuesday night. The thieves gained entrance to the church by forcing open a window, and although they did not touch the sacred vessels in the church they attempted to open a small money box. The door of the tabernacle, which is valued at £63, has a close resemblance to gold.
During Tuesday night thieves broke into the residence of Misses Lorna and Ivy Marshall in Ipswich Road, Stephens, and stole a gold wristlet watch and some money, a total value of about £8. Entrance was gained by forcing the front door. At Raymond Road, Alderley, thieves were active during the holiday period, and broke into the homes of David Dunworth and Robert Turner-Jones. In each case entrance was gained by forcing a window, but as far as is known nothing
of value was taken.
Unsuccessful attempts were made on premises in Uhl's Building, Petrie Bight, the General Rubber Co., Petrie Bight, and Griffiths' Store in Milton Road. Auchenflower.
