ARRIVE TODAY
Drive Through City To Heidelberg
Survivors among the Australian Army Nursing Service sisters cap- tured by the Japanese in Malaya will arrive at Port Melbourne in the hospital ship Manunda between 6pm and 7pm today. Of the 24 sisters recovered in Sumatra 22 will disem- bark this evening, the remaining two having left the ship at Fre- mantle. In all 188 recovered prisoners of war will disembark from the Manunda, 112 of them being Vic- torians. In addition there are 135 New South Wales men and 64 Queenslanders, who will remain on board.
The sisters, all of whom will dis- embark to attend a welcome at Heidelberg Military Hospital, will travel to Heidelberg in the first bus of the procession, which will go by way of Bay st. City rd. St Kilda rd, Swanston, Latrobe. Rathdown, and Nicholson sts. Queen's pde. and Heidelberg rd to Heidelberg Hos- pital, where relatives may greet the returned men and nursing sisters.
Among the sisters to arrive will be Sister V. Bullwinkel, who is the sole survivor of the Banka Island mas- sacre Victorians are Sisters N. G. James, A. B. Jeffrey, W. E. Oram, and B. Woodbridge.
Each will be presented on arrival with a box of flowers and welcome home message from Victorian mem-
bers of the AANS. Later they will be given orders on shops in their various states by the sisters on the staff at Heidelberg Military Hospital and a book each from the AANS on the staff of 106 AGH.
