Hawkes und Miss Boyd's defeat of Borotra and Mdmc Bordes was a great victory, both the Australians showing their best form. They will meet Hunter and Miss Wills in the semi-finals.

Mdlle Burbler started impressively aginst Mrs. O'Hara Wood, leading 1 love, but the Australian won 5 suc- cessive games, taking the set in the eighteenth game. (Mrs. O'Hara Wooil won through consistent side-line driv- ing. In Hie men's singles, Hopman be- gan well, winning the second .vt against Gaston, but faded away du-ïippointingly whenever he appeared to have a chance of making a reasonable play.
