A high tribute to the militia which, he said, had supplied nearly all of- ficers required for the A.I.F. was paid to-day by Lieut.-General V. A. H. Sturdee, of the Eastern Command, who has been appointed Commander
of the 8th Division.
"Don't make any mistake, "these young men are magnificent in qual- ity, their response has been mag- nificent. They have produced nearly all the officers we required so far and a large percentage of N.C.O.'s,"
he added.
In one brigade alone there were 400 militia men ready to enter the A.I.F. as soon as they were wanted.
Lieut.-General Sturdee said that the enlistments in the 8th Division had been so heavy that it would be filled very soon.
