The Commonwealth Government has abolished the observance of Ar mistice Day on November 11 and, in its place, will commemorate Re- membrance Day on Sunday, Novem- ber 9, for those who gave their lives both in the wars of 1914-18 and

1939-45.

, ' The Prime Minister (Mr. Chifley)' said yesterday that -tlje, new pro- cedure accorded -Witht tlio, suggestion made by the. British ÍGoverumerit in 1946, and agreed to hythe Common- wealth Government, that national remembrance, thanksgiving and de« dicat'ion should in future be held on a Sunday.

The Sunday would be that befoio November 11 (unless either Novem- ber 11 or November 12 was.a Sun- day) and it would be known as Re- membrance Sunday. ;> . -
