THE LATE MB. CHBISTMAS.

DEATH BY POISONING. A HAT SHED BURNT.

[By Telegraph.]

(FbOM OUĂ„ CORRESPONDENT.)

Northam, May 3.

A post mortem examination was held yes- terday on the remains of the late Mr. C. Christmas. At the inquest a verdict that death was due to poisoning was returned.

The hay shed of Mr. John Morrell was destroyed by fire yesterday, together with a quantity of chaff bagged for market. Owing to the prompt assistance rendered by Mr. McDowell and bis men the loss is much less than it otherwise would have been, as a considerable portion of the ohaff was saved.

The fire is attributed to a spark from the con-, tractor's engine. This is tbe tbird fire attri- buted to the same cause within the past few weeks. Strange to say no inquiry has been held in either, of the cases referred to. The Muoioipal Council is, I learn, about to take some action in the matter of these fires.

The National Bank is open for the trans- action of new business. Notes are not yet payable.

Good rain fell here to-day.
