"J. Lauder" writes as follows to th'e Editor of this paper:

"Dear Sir,-Will you kindly pub- lish' the following facts. Mr. Basset has been greatly annoyed by several peoples saying t!h!ey( did not believe that he ever went to Gallipoli. I have let- ters frprn1 my son at .that place, which proves that Mr. Basset most certainly was there. Sidney wrote that he had a very good mate, Mr. Basset, from Darwin, who had been most helpful to bimi. They shared the same dug-out. When a bullet pierced the canvas my, son sent a sketch1 of it, done by him- self. When Mr. Basset returned to Darwin, I sent woid for him' lo call and see m!e, as I Ihjad never met him before. He told me everything in detail, many tlhlings my son had simply briefly mentioned in his letters. He has the bullet that pierced the dug- out. When I showed him the sketch he said it was exactly like it. I hope this will prove to everyone's satisfac- tion tlhat Mr. Basset certainly did get to Gallipoli."
