THE FUNERAL CORTEGE.

GATHERING.

(By Telegraph from our Correspondent.)
, SYDNEY, April 29.
The remains of the late Sir Ilenry (Parkes wore interred to-day at Faul- conbridge, in the Blue Mountains, where in the zenith of his prosperity the deceased statesman had a beauti- ful home. Though it was the wish of Sir Ilenry Parkes's family that the obsequies should be without any public ceremony, the funeral was attended by .thousands of people as a mark of re- spect to his memory. The collin was covered with beautiful wreaths and crosses, sent by his Excellency tile Go- vernor, the Earl of Glasgow, Lord Car- rington, the Governments of all the Australian colonies, Sir Saul and Lady * Samuel, the Hallway Commissioners,
and almost 'the whole of the municipal corporations of New South Wales', to- gether with members of the Opposi- tion and almost every public body of importance in the colony. The House« of rarlianient were also closed as a
?mark of respect to the deceased states-
man.
The funeral cortege left Kenilworth, Kir Henry Parkes's late residence at Annandale, the hearse being followed Iby two carriages laden with flowers, and then the mourning carriages, in the first of which were Lady Parkes and Sir Henry's children by the second ¡Lady Parkes. In the second carriage were Mr. Varney Parkes and the elder children of the deceased. Then came the Ministers of the Crown, the Judges of the Supreme Court, the Mayor and aldermen of the City Council, members of the two Houses of the Legislatu.-e, the Railway Commissioners, the mili- tary staff, and a large body of citizens.
The coffin and the mourners were conveyed in a special train to Faulcon- bridge, where the burial took place this afternoon in the family burial ground, the remains being placed beside those of Sir nenry's first wife.
Tlie scene at the grave was deeply affecting,i. due to the unconstrained grief of the widow and children.
