The body of an unknown man was (says our Ipswich correspondent) found In the Bremer River about 150 yards be- low the One-mile Bridge early yesterday morning. Appearances would not lead to the supposition that he had been drowned, however, as, when discovered, he was lying on his back with a portion of his body in the water and his head on the bank. The deceased, who was fully dressed, was a comparatively young man, being apparently about 25 f/ears of age. He wore a blue serge coat and trouseis, striped cotton shirt, white straw hat ?with broad 'black band, laco-up boots and black cotton socks. The makers name on the coat was " Fisher, Perth, W.A.," which would lead to the surmise that the unknown had recently come from Western Australia. He was about Gl't. in height, of stout build, fair hair and complexion, with face clean shaven. No clue as to his identity has as yet beei obtained. In his pockets weie found a pocket-book (unused), a small bottle which had contained a whitish granular substance, and an envelope. This enve- lope was, however, partially destioyed. It bore the imprint of the Post and Tele- graph Department of Queensland, but a portion of the addiess was torn off, allowing it to read-" Mrs. (name corn off), Rhynie, WIckham-terrace." The matter was reported to Constable Demp- ster, in charge at 'VKest Ipswich, at half past 6 o'clock yesterday morning. He in- formed his superior officer, Senior-ser- geant Burke, and the body was conveyed to the morgue. The police are striving to identify the man, and with this ob- ject the senior-sergeant has wired to the Brisbane police to make Inquiries A post-mortem examination was held at the morgue by the Government medical officer (Dr. Von Lossberg) yesterday afternoon.
