EXTRAORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCE. -A man named Henry Townsend, who for some time has been employed as a shepherd at Talgai, on Monday last was subjected to an opera- tion which revealed a peculiar incident. It appears the patient soon after his arrival in Sydney some thirty-one or thirty-two years ago started up the country. A projecting nail in his boot made a hole in his foot. Subsequently his boots wore out and he went bare-foot. A stone, or he knew what not, entered the wound in his foot, which 'became very bad. On obtaining rest, the

foot got well. But at intervals ever since

he has been troubled with pain and sore- ness, which latterly became worse. On Monday last Dr. Aldred made an incision into the foot, and abstracted a stone almost the dimensions of a marble, which must have been embedded in the sole of the fool for upwards of thirty years. The patient is All right since the operation. -Ibid.

DRAYTON LAND SALE.-At the Govern- ment Land Sale, held nt the Polico Office, Drayton, on Monday last, the following wa1

i he result as far as we have ascertained. The description of the land having been neither exhibited in maps at the Police Ollico previous to the sale, nor advertised in the local paper, it is presumeable that the Survey or-General,desires tho particular to remain sub rosa, therefore, as we were supplied with the acreage and areas, it is useless to give the amounts realised. Lots 1 and 2, L. H. Fletcher; 3, 4, and 5, C. Pottinger ; G, AV. Armstrong ; 8, John Beit; 12, 13, and 14, John Beit; 15, and 16, AV. Shuttlowood ; 17, John Crane ; l8, Jones and Ebourne ; 19, C. Clegg ; 20, F. Mole ; 21, E. de St. Jean ; 22, John Beit ; .25, John Roche ; 26, James Lucas ; 30 and 31, F. Bawer ; 32, W. Arm- strong ; 33, E. do St. Jean ; 34, John Han. Ion ; 35 and 30, E. de St. Jean ; 37, AV. Armstrong; 47, C. Cocks-; 48, E.'Peacber;

49, AV. Armstrong; 50, AV. Armstrong; 51 I and 52, John Ryan ; 53, G. Hooper; 54 and | «55, Barry ; 56 and 57, John Ryan. The in- tervening numbers of the above lots were unsold, as were also from 58 to 64 inclusive. Hid the sale been advertised in the local

paper, probably the whole of the lots would have been sold, and doubtless some of them at a higher figure than was' realised." Se- veral parties desirous of buying land, were

totally unaware of the sale. Most of the i

lots sold were near Toowoomba, . but the j Drayton lots realized the best prices.-Ibid.
