NOOJEE TIMBER.
REOPENING LOCH VALLEY. Ministry Purchases Tramway.
The Minister for Forests (Mr. Penning- ton) yesterday completed arrangements with the Loch Valley Timber Tramway Co.
for the purchase from the company of the remains of its tramline from Noojee into Loch Valley. The line, which is about eight miles long, and provides the only route over which milled timber may be brought fiom the Loch valley to the Noo- jee railway station, was severely damaged by the bush fires early in 1926, and has not since been used. As a result, the timber industry in Noojee has declined. The purchase price is not announced, but it is understood that the Ministry agreed to a compromise between the price of £1,000 which it first offered for the line, and an amount exceeding £2,000 sought by
the company.
In announcing the purchase, Mr. Pen- nington said that he was hopeful that it could mark n revival of the Noojee timber industry. A survey of the route could be made immediately by officers of the Forests Commission. It would then be ar- ranged to invite tenders either for the reno- vation or the reconstruction of the line. He was hopeful that this work would be completed before the Summer, so that mili- ing operations could be resumed as early as possible.
