CAR OVERTURNS.

DRIVER KILLED.

Other Occupants Escape Injury.

BRUTHEN, Friday.−George Hollings- worth, aged 18 years, son of Mr. Henry   Hollingsworth, of Buchan, was killed in- stantly yesterday when a motor-car over- turned a few miles on the lakes side of   Nowa Nowa, on the Prince's Highway.

Hollingsworth was driving his car with a number of Melbourne men who were en- gaged on the Buchan-Ensay road, to catch   the Melbourne train at Bairnsdale. The car

was travelling about 30 miles an hour on a straight piece of road when a back wheel collapsed, causing the car to overturn. Hol- lingsworth was thrown on to his head and   killed. The other occupants of the car   escaped with slight injuries.

DRIVER KILLED INSTANTLY.

Mishap Near Castlemaine.

CASTLEMAINE. Friday. − In a motor accident on the Newstead road, about six miles from Castlemaine, to-day a man,   whose name is believed to be Angus Wal- dron, of 18 Service crescent, South Mel- bourne, was killed.

In company with Mrs. Elsie May Donald, of 677 Spencer street, West Mel- bourne, he was motoring to Maryborough, and, swerving to the edge of the road to avoid an oncoming vehicle, his car skidded in the sand and overturned. Mrs. Donald escaped uninjured, but Waldron was killed instantly. The body was taken to the Castlemaine morgue. An inquiry will be held.

LEVEL CROSSING MISHAP.

Three Persons Injured.

PERTH, Friday.−Three persons were in-   jured when a passenger train crashed into

a motor-car at a level crossing between Perth and Fremantle. The car was carried   30 yards before being tossed on to the oppo- site set of rails. Those injured, who were passengers in the car, were:− PICONE, JEAN, aged 18 years; possible fracture of skull and concussion.

MCDONALD, EDWARD, aged 27 years; lacera-

tions to head, concussion, and several frac- tured ribs.    

STUDWICK, ERIC, aged 20 years; lacerations

to head.

KNOCKED DOWN BY CYCLE.  

Engineer Fatally Injured.

GEELONG, Friday.− Fatal injuries were   sustained by Clement Jameson, second engi- neer of the steamer Rio Dorado, when he was knocked down by a motor-cycle on the Melbourne road, near Cowie's Creek, last evening. Jameson, who lived at South Shields, England, was married, with two   children. He was walking from the ter- minus of the electric tramway system to his ship, which was moored at Lascelles Wharf, when he was knocked down by a motor-cycle ridden by Allan James Dun- lop, State School teacher, of Inverleigh.   Jameson sustained a fracture of the skull. He was admitted to the hospital, where he died this morning.

CYCLE AND CAR COLLIDE.

Two Riders Hurt.

YALLOURN, Thursday. − A motor-car   collided with a motor-cycle, on which three men were riding, on the brown coalmine road this morning. The car was driven by C. Jones, of the brown coalmine, who escaped injury. The rider of the motor- cycle was W. Warnett, of Morwell, who was struck by the mudguard. He was admitted to the Yallourn Hospital with his right leg fractured in five places. Another man on the motor-cycle was E. Snell, who sustained a fractured thigh. The third man was thrown clear and escaped injury. The vehicles were travelling in opposite directions, and were rounding a curve when the accident occurred.

MOTOR-'BUSES COLLIDE.

Sixteen Persons Treated at Hospital.

SYDNEY, Friday.−Sixteen persons were injured at Marrickville on Thursday when   two large motor-'buses collided. Only two were admitted to hospital. They were:−  

BRIAN, HENRY J., aged 27 years, 'bus driver,

of the Crescent, Homebush.−Deep laceration to scalp, concussion of the brain, and prob- ably a fractured skull.

COSGROVE, DOROTHY, aged eight years, of

Sydenham road, Marrickville.−Fractured   skull.

The collision occurred at a street inter- section, one 'bus crashing into the side of the other. Many people gathered to assist the injured, but the spectacle caused one   woman among the onlookers to faint. The 'bus in which the driver was injured swerved across the street and crashed into   a garage, causing much damage. Falling bricks added to the danger to the passen- gers. All of the injured persons were treated at hospital.

PINNED BENEATH CAR.

Narrow Escape of Two Men.

MAFFRA, Friday.−While proceeding from Maffra to Fernbank a car driven by Mr. Neil McDonald, auctioneer for Messrs. A. McLean and Co., who had as a pas- senger Mr. E. Saunders, cattle dealer, struck a raised approach to a culvert, turned over into a gully below, and burst into flames. Both occupants were pinned underneath the car. Mr. McDonald, who   sustained a deep gash below the right eye, managed to extricate himself. After much exertion he freed Mr. Saunders, and just afterwards the tank of the car exploded. The car was destroyed by fire.

Messrs. McDonald and Saunders were conveyed to Maffra, where they were treated by a doctor. Mr. Saunders was severely bruised and shaken, and both suf- fered severely from shock.

MISHAP AT STAWELL. Car and Truck Collide.

STAWELL, Friday.−A collision oc-   curred in Seaby street last night between a motor-car driven by B. Bates, of War- racknabeal, and a motor-truck driven by   J. Raymond, of Dadswell's Bridge. The truck had been temporarily standing and moved across the road and ran into the car, the front ot the truck cutting the engine   of the car almost in half. The truck was only slightly damaged. Two men, two women, and three children in the car and the driver and his wife in the truck escaped injury. Raymond had brought his wife   into Stawell to have a fractured arm set, and was returning home when the accident occurred.

CYCLE STRIKES COW.

Girl Injured.

WANGARATTA, Friday.−A motor- cycle and sidecar, driven by William P. Studham, of Darlington grove, East Coburg, collided with a cow on the Hume Highway, a mile out of the town, this afternoon. A passenger in the sidecar, Miss Eileen Lough, of Younger street, Coburg, was thrown out, and sustained in- juries to the shoulder and abrasions. Stud- ham was following a motor-car which swerved to avoid the cow, into which Stud-

ham crashed.  

DOOR TORN FROM CAR.

Injured Cyclist Left on Road.

Although a door was torn from his car and the rider of a bicycle with which he col- lided at Doncaster late yesterday atternoon was knocked down and injured a motorist failed to stop. The motor-car, it is said, contained a number of men. A registration number has been reported to the police.

Percival Wood, of Lawes street, Haw-  

thorn, the rider of the bicycle, was treated by a doctor for abrisions and cuts.

Car Overturns at Macedon.  

Four persons were injured when a motor-

car overturned on the Upper Macedon road, near the golf house, late yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Emma Wilson, aged 42   years, of Somerville road, West Footscray, was admitted to the Melbourne Hospital with a fractured collar-bone, fractured ribs,   and a lacerated forehead. Harry Wilson, aged 47 years, was treated for a bruised head, and his daughter, Violet, aged 14       years, was treated for lacerations of the leg and a bruised head. William Dixon,   aged 26 years, of Bay street, Geelong, was treated for lacerations of the scalp and thigh. Passing motorists brought the in-   jured persons to the hospital.    

Charge Against Motorist.

John Costello, aged 31 years, milk carter, of Somerton, was admitted to the Mel-

bourne Hospital last night with a fractured   shoulder and lacerations on the forehead and neck. He was injured when thrown     against the windscreen of a motor-car which   ran into a tree guard in Gordon street, Coburg, last night.

At the Coburg watchhouse last night Sydney James Morgan, electrician, of   Coburg, was charged with having been   under the influence of liquor when driving

a motor-car.  

Child Knocked Down by Car.

As a result of being knocked down by a     motor-car, Norma Miller, aged 5 years, of   31 May street, Deepdene, was admitted to the Children's Hospital on Thursday evening suffering from a fractured base     of the skull. Her condition is serious.  

Painter Dies of Injuries.

As a result of severe head injuries re- ceived when he was struck by a motor-

truck while riding a bicycle in St. Kilda road, near Domain road, on Wednesday   evening, Otto Dunt, painter, of Eastern road, South Melbourne, died in the Alfred   Hospital on Wednesday night. The St.   Kilda road police are anxious to communi- cate with witnesses of the accident.

Youth Fatally Injured in Collision.

MILDURA, Friday.−A collison be-     tween a motor-truck and a jinker occurred   on Thursday morning on the New South   Wales side of the Mildura bridge. Charles Hennessy, of Bendigo, aged 20 years, died later in the Mildura Hospital from internal   injuries. Mrs. R. Hennessy, of Bendigo, was travelling to Mildura from Swan Hill, and     was accompanied by her two sons. Ap- proaching the bridge they were met by two jinkers, and when the truck was beside the   jinkers one of the horses swerved towards it, and the shaft struck Charles Hen-

nessy.

Car Meet Head On.  

CORRYONG, Friday.−On the main road       between Corryong and Tallangatta last     night a car driven by Mr. Sidney Smith, of Melbourne, collided with a car driven by Mr. McClurg, of Corryong, who was   going to Albury. The mishap occurred on a bend in the road on Keelangie Hill. The cars collided head on, but owing to the slow pace at which they were travelling   a serious accident was averted. Mrs. Smith, who accompanied her husband was treated by a doctor for shock. The cars were damaged.
