(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
Forest Creek, May 30th, 1853.
In defiance of all that has transpired here for the last week or two, in reference to pulling down the tents of sly-grog-sellers on bare sus- picion, Mr. Christian has thought proper to fly in the of the community by a repetition of the same, although, on examination, the case was dismissed. On Tuesday night, Mr. Chris- tian, with four of the police, proceeded to a tent belonging to a party of diggers at Castle- maine, and commenced a search for grog, but found nothing. This tent, was occupied by a married couple, and the common property of the immates of a tent immediately behind which Mr. Christian also visited, and found thc-ciu a man d link and about four gallons of liquor. All the occupants of the tent being ah eit, Mr. Christian procooded to pull it down ; and, while doing so, a man named Choke claimed the tont as one of the party, and wished to know by what authority Mr. Christian acted in such a summary manner: he was ansvieied hy h'iug given into custody, and admitted to bail in £100 security. Next morning Choke was examined, and the caso was dhmibcd, no salo having boen proved, and, in dofenoa, it being urged that the liquor foui d was tho common property of the party, and i it.nded as tho winter stock. On dt'tu'ssitig tho caso, a few words of advico were dropped by tho ßench as t) the conduct of Mr. Christian. Such conduct is certainly highly cen'tirablo, and molo to when SJ recently the publ'c here hw shown its contempt for theso doings. How is itthat Mr. Christian's suporio's tobrate such proeccd'ngs? If Mr. Christian has not common sense enough ti discern right from wrong, why rotain such a man in tho
icrvic ?
