NEW BEACH DRESSING-HOUSES.
During the year the Henley and Grange Corporation has been in existence over £200 has been collected in foreshore rents, all of which, according to the law, must be expended in making foreshore improve- ments. Henley Beach has grown to be one of the most popular sea-side resorts, and the local council did not fail to recognise the inadequacy of the accommodation provided for bathers. As a result, a contract was let to Messrs. Cockburn & Cakebread to convert the two dressing sheds on the south side of the jetty, given some time ago by Messrs. Wilkinson & Co., into one big house for the use of male bathers, and to erect a new shed on the other side of the jetty for the use of female bathers. Nearly £400 was spent in this direction, and the accommodation which has been provided will be greatly appreciated by the local residents and visitors to the beach. On Saturday afternoon the Chief Secre- tary (Hon. A. W. Styles) inspected the buildings, after which he declared them open to the public. A nominal charge will be made for admission to the sheds, and also for the use of the clothes lockers which have been provided. A convenience of which all bathers will ap- prove is a fresh water shower. In the ladies' bathing house are two mirrors, presented by Messrs. D. & J. Fowler. The Chief Secretary, who was introduced by the Mayor of Henley and Grange (Mr. G. S. Wright), congratulated the members of the local council on the work they had done. They had shown they were municipalists, and were not unmind- ful of the requirements of the public, who went to Henley and used their beach. The new bathing-houses would be appreciated by both ratepayers and
visitors.
An exhibition of life-saving was then given by members of the North Adelaide Amateur Swimming Club, under Mr. W.
Ashworth.
