On Wednisslay tlie Hc-cretary. Mr. S. J. Pullman, took the acctptanc-f»» for the" Spring meeting of tlie Port Club, and the wy-up w-w in every ns-pect **-ati-*faetorv. ."»o that the new secretary should rjegin hw oireer under happy ain-picea. There were 44 in tlie Trial Stakes, and. after the ac ueptances, the committee wisely cut that event into two divisions, and l8 will mil in each. Big fields will rule in the other events, as there arc l8 in the Hurdle, 12 in tbe Spring Handicap, 17 in. the Juvenile IJandicap. 12 in the StcepIocha.-<c, 20 in the Flying Handicap, and 20 in the

Welter.

The followers of Audacity for the Caul nV'ld Cup will find that the English horse * has a fair programme to go through at

Randwick before they can begin to talk alwut him for the Cup named. Scobie lian paid up for him in the Metropolitan, one mile and a half, in which he has 7st. 10/ lb. Then he has engaged Auda- city to run in the Spring Stakes, w.f.a., one mile and a half, with 1,500 sovs. added. This event is run on the open- ing day of the A-T.C. Spring meeting, Saturday, October 4. and the Metropoli- tan on Monday. October 6 (Eight Houm Day in Sydney). On the Wednesday Audacity ia engaged in the Craven Plate,

w.f.a., one mile and a quarter, with 2,000 I sovs. added. Then on Saturday, October 11, Audacity ia down to run in the Randwick Plate, w.f.a., two miles, with 2,000 so vs. added.

R. Lewis intends to proceed to Sydney 1 this week in order to ride Audacity iu

Ids engagements at Randwick. He is also engaged for Eubulus for the A.J.C. Derby, .and as G. Lambert, who is to be on Andelosia in that event, is already at Randwick, P. T. Heywood will no doubt call upon the two horsemen to ride the colts' work. The removal of

.Wise King from the A.J.C. Derby liit ? i-emovcd all doubts as to the ability of

Lewis to ride Eubulus. A year ago Xewis went to Sydney to ride Wolawa in the Derby, and he had the.good for- tune to be asked to get np on Duke , Foote in the Metropolitan.

The newB published in 'The Adver tif-er" a week ago that Burrawang will < not race again ia confirmed. Burrawang

is the horse bought at the Sydney sales by Mr. Parches for Messrs. R. Bradfield and E. S. Wragge. He purchased him because, in his opinion, he was a well nigh perfectly put together colt. He '? îh a fine type of home, and he.is to go

to the stud this season. He is to stand at Yallambi, near Heidelberg, and ten mares will bo taken to him free. He is ' by Simmer from. Carbina, by Carbins

from Azalea (imp.), by Galhard (son of '' Galopin), and should do well as a sire.

A visitor from South Africa saw Mr. C. Smith, the owner of San Juan, with . regard to the purchase of that horse.

Mr. Smith quoted a price for San Juan, * who, by the way, is not leased.

For the Kadina and Wallaroo Jockey 'i Club October races nominations will be

. taken on October 10, and may be made

at Gordon's Agency, Adelaide, till 4 p.m.. or with the secretary till 8 p.m. . at Kadina. Stokes, 300 sovs. The

' programme appears in 'The Advertiser." . to-day. /

meeting at Randwick on ¡saturday.

Had Comus won the Cave Hill Steeple- chase at Moonee Valley on Wednesday he would have put up art unusual sequence ' ' of *. successes over fences. He had won

The New Zealand eolt. Soltana, who is ? down to run in the A.J.C. Derby, was en-

» Beau Soult, who has been paid up for -. in Che A.J.C. Derby, was at newcastle on

Saturday, and he won the Club Handicap, one mile, with 8 st. 11 lb. (J. E. Pike). The colt, who is by dead Soult-Our Lady, tan' eecotq) favorite at 7 to 2 and won by four lengths in 1 min. 42* sec.

on Saturday.

At the Hunt Club meeting at Moonee ' »Valley on Wednesday the stipendiary

ste^nurds held an enquiry into the running of Atticer in the Hurdle Race. They exonerated the owner and the trainer, but wrverely cautioned the jockey (R. Koops) for his, riding.

Victorian owners will be represented in the ".J.C. Derby by Grand Marshal, Breastwork (owned by Mr."-S. A. Raw- don).. Andelosia (Messrs. A. D. Murphy and M. Sheldon). Eubulus (Mr. J. Widdis), and Marculfuu (Mr. K. S. McLeod).

K, Bracken has decided not to go to Sydney for Tattersall's meeting. He will ' noc take his departure under the altered arraugement until Thursday next.

At Flemington there is a two-year-old brother to the Adelaide-owned Eighteen Carat, named Fclim. On Tuesday morn- ing the colt went smartly in a short gallop with Blairfiside. .

Th<> Tetrarch, who on Tuesday took the Champagne Staken at the Doncaster meet- ing, has now won about 10.000 sovs. in stakes this hcason. The Champadme Stakes had 1,000 so vu. added to it, but the sweep- stake*, 30 sova. each for starters, or 20 forfeit, or 5 sovs. forfeit if declared in July, would lovell the. fund, as there were 123" entries when the nominations closed in November, 1912. Stornaway, who was so easily beaten by the crack colt, is owned by Mr. E. Hutton, and is trained by the ex-Australian, R. T. Wootton.

THE JODIES' CHAMPIONSHIP.

Melbourne, September 10.

Wh-n the second sta-je of ihc ladies' ¡rolf championship of Australasia was entered upon at Sandringham to-day, the conditions were much more strenuous than on the first day. There was a fine, but »tiff breeze, which was again»t good stroking, and, as a result, the figure« com- pared badly with those of Tuesday. Miss V. Binnie, the bolder of the litle, wa« the only pla} ed to break he nineties, and this eh did by one stroke. Hy her performance Mi-s Binnie rai»ed herself to third position, and she is now within three «roko- of tho leader, a pood strikincr distance for a determined finL-her like Miss Binnie. Miss Gladys Hay, with 90, the second best contribution of the day, also im- proved her position materially. She is now fourth, two strokes behind Mi«fi Binnie. Mito E. Raleigh finished the day still at the head of the list, but her round "of 93 to-day reduced her lead to only onp stroke. Mis,, Manifold sained one step. She went round to-day in 91. and is now in sr-oond place. Mrs. Harrison (Tasmania), seven stroke» behind the laeder. i« in fifth position. The principal scores are as

A TEAM POR. NEW ZEALAND.

At the meeting of the Australian Bowl- ing Council in Melbourne last December a sub-committee waa appointed, consisting of a representative from each State, with Mr. Clarence Moody as convener, with the object of endeavoring to secure a Commonwealth team to .visit New Zealand during the coming; season. Mr. Moody has been in correspondente with leading players of the various .-States for some time past, and there is every prospect of a first-class team being secured. Tlie gene- ral intention is, subject to the wishes of tho phyers, to leave Sydney during the week before Christmas, and play five test mat eui es with New Zealand, and other games subsequently as may be arranged. The whole tour will probably extend over about five weeks, but it will be possible for a player to take part in the test games and get home to the eastern Stated in less than a month. Mr. Moody, ex- pressing the wishes of the oomittee", asks that South Australian players who » can find it convenient to go to New Zealand will immediately communicate with him. Nominations will close finally with Mr. Moody in Adelaide on October 4.

A SUCCESSFUL MEETING.

/The Adelaide Plumpton Club concluded its final meeting of the season on Wed- nesday afternoon. The showery conditions -and counter attraction of the Show militated somewhat against the attend- ance, but the success of the .meeting was pronounced, and over 80 courses were got through, with the loss of only a dozen hares. The trials throughout were of a high order, and evoked the greates!; enthusiasm.
