The Civil Court has not yet made any ad-

judication in the Cause S. Lord ( as agent to Mr. Hugh Machin), versus John Palmer,     Esq.

On Thursday last 55 Pieces of Lignum Vitae or Dye-wood. were received on board   His Majesty's ship Glatton for England.

The quantity of Ship timber received by the Glatton, on Friday amounted to 120 heavy pieces. She will continue to take in as long as she may remain here.

We would willingly venture a hope that the circumstances of converting a part of the Gaol into a temporary provision store, is   some assurance of a reformation among the     lower orders who, perchance begin to feel   that the residence of guilt is equally the man-   sion of wretchedness, and that the terrors   of a prison are to be avoided by adopting a conduct upon which their peace of mind and personal security alike depend.

On Friday Mr. J. Underwood accidentally

fell from the taff rail of the new vessel build-   ing by Kable and himself and was most se-   verely bruised by the fall.

On Sunday last the following curious de-     predation was committed in the work-shop     of T. Randall, Tinman :- A roasted pullet, fruit pye, the residue of a leg of mutton well trimmed, and sundry Et-ceteras, were depo- sited, as a reserve for supper-time, in a large

tin boiler, and placed in the shop, to be out of the reach of Flies and Ants, little suspecting   that so savory a course might attract the at-     tention of a more mischievous spoiler. The   fun of the table engrossing the attention of the company, the kettle and pullet were ne- ver once thought of, until returning appetite   reminded them of the deposit. The busy housewife fitted out the board, and intreated   that her partner would introduce the WEL-   COME larder :--- to do which he was, alas !

too late --- the bird, the whole repast, had

flown, and left behind astonishment and disappointment.

On Wednesday evening a Battle Royal was     fought in front of the General Hospital, in which several persons of either sex were   seriously engaged. A pair of Amazons at   length engrossed the attention of the spect-   tors--- A Mrs. Fido matched against a Scot ; the latter of whom was finally declared trium-

phant, although she had, during the contest,   experienced many manual expostulations from the husband of her antagonist. This violation of the laws of Bruising did not, how- ever, pass altogether unresented : A bye- stander openly accused him of FOUL PLAY, and enforced his appeal to the Genius of Combat with a well-directed assault upon the nose of signor Fido, who sunk beneath the ir-   resistible argument. When he had recovered his legs he undauntedly claimed the privi-

ledge of DEMANDING satisfaction ; in com-     pliance with which, the assailant, who com-       plained of a contusion in the knee, deliberate-

ly seated himself in the center of the road,     and invited the faithful Fido to an ECLAIRE

CISSEMENT. This mode of combat was   cordially acquiesced in, and to it eagerly they

went. Fido boasted superior skill, his anta-

gonist the strength of Ajax, but both found bottom. Having INNOCENTLY amused   each other with a desperate Tete-a-tete of 20 minutes, the appearance of a number of Peace Officers put a period to the SPORT, and the embattled myrmidons thought pro- per to abandon the post of honour, mutually delighted that his opponent had not an eye

to direct his course.

Two men were last week ordered to work   in the Gaol Gang, for having drawn the Ration from the store after they had been granted the indulgence of going on their

own hands ; an encouragement, which so criminal a specimen of ingratitude evinced

they were unworthy of.

On Friday evening some villains entered the dwelling-house of J. Palmer, Esq. at   Woollamoola, but being alarmed by that gen-   tleman, instantly made off without a booty. Mr. Palmer has offered a Reward of Five Gui-   neas for a discovery of the parties concerned.

SHIP NEWS. --- Remain as per last.

Boats. --- Came in from Hawkesbury on Tuesday the James, William, and Union.   On Friday sailed the James.
