SHIP NEWS
On Sunday arrived the schooner Endea- vour, belonging to Messrs Kable and Under- wood, from Norfolk Island, a few hours after the Integrity came into the Cove, We last week mentioned her departure from the lsland a week before the latter vessel, which delay was owing to her being blown off her course to the eastward. Mr Hig- gins the Master, informs us, that he lost a Seaman on his passage, two having fallen overboard together about ten at night, only one of whom could be saved ; and on his return, about 100 miles to the westward of Norfolk Island, saw the naked body of a man floating, the weather very tempestuous
at the time.
On Tuesday morning came in from New castle, His Majesty's Colonial Vessel Francis,
Mr. Edwards Master, from Hunter's River, with Ensign Cressy of the New South Wales Corps, and Mr. Throsby Assistant
Surgeon. The above vessel with the Edwin an Raven in company, made King's Town in 36 hours, and landed the Stock in good
order and without any accident whatever. A prisoner made his escape into the woods shortly after landing, but was im- imediately pursued by a file of the Military, accompanied by the Native Bungary, who
would doubtless overtake him, before he could proceed to any very considerable dis- tance : Should it unfortunately happen other- wise, the consequences of his impetuosity must fall dreadfully upon himself. This man had been selected with others to go up the River, for the purpose of procuring
Cedar, and received as is the usual custom, a
fortnight's Ration : this may subsist him for
a short time, should he elude the activity of his pursuers, which is at the same time high- ly improbable ; but as it is scarcely possible that he should long pass unperceived by the Native hordes, no other prospect can remain
to his rashness but that of inevitable death by famine or assassination.
