BEFORE THE. MAGISTRATES.
SATURDAY, FEB. 23.
John Simpson, apprehended on suspicion of forgery, underwent a short examination upon two separate charges ; the one for uttering a counterfeit bill of 5£; and the other a bill of 5£ 7s. purporting to be drawn by His Ho-
nor Lieutenant Governor Paterson. The parties to whom he had paid the bills found no difficulty in identifying in the prisoner the person from whom the bills had been received .-He was therefore remanded.
John Davis, servant to Mr. Kable, was accused of having stolen a quantity of spirits, the property of his master ; and the fact being clearly substantiated, the delinquent was sentenced a corporal punishment, which was inflicted accordingly.
