SUNDAY MORNING
Last evening arrived the Honduras Packet, Cap-
tain Buncker, last from Bass's Straits.
His Majesty's Ship Buffalo is sitting, and will sail for Norfolk Island, Hobart Town, and Port Dalrymple about the 12th of August, with People, Provisions, Stock, &c. for those Settlements.
When the Governor Hunter was on the eve of departure from Hobart, a boat belonging to the settlement was taken away by a prisoner of the name of Stuart, accompanied by three others. Suspecting their design to make an attack upon the vessel, His Honor the Lieut.
Governor directed a party of the military to accompany her down the river ; and when at the distance of 90 miles from the settlement, the fugitives hove in sight as expected, and going along-side, demanded a rope ; this was, readily complied with, and as soon as they had made good their boarding the soldiers abruptly made their appearance, and convinced the astonished adventurers that under the influence of vice confidence goes but a short way on the road to success. They were made prisoners, and put on shore with their hands linked to one another's, and conducted back to the set- tlement by land travel.
Last Tuesday P. Shanan attended the Ma-
gistrates to answer a complaint exhibited by several persons of mal-treatment the night before ; in consequence of which he was bound over to the peace for twelve months
and dismissed his situation of Overseer of the town gangs.
