The Governor General directs it to be notified that a despatch, dated the 28th February, 1852,

has been received from Sir John Somerset Pa-

kington, Bart., informing his Excellency that her Majesty has been pleased to entrust to his care, as one of the Principal Secretaries of State, the Seals of the Colonial Department.

RETURNING OFFICER.

His Excellency the Governor General directs it to be notified that in virtue of the power vested in him by the 8th section of the Act of Council 14th Vic, No. 48, he has been pleased to appoint Bourn Russell, Esq., to be the Re- turning Officer of the electoral district of the Northumberland Boroughs, in the room of Ed- ward Charles Close, Esq., resigned.

His Excellency the Governor General has been pleased to appoint Charles Simpson, Esq ,

to be Warden of the District Council of New- castle, in the room of James Henry Crummer, Esq., resigned.

His Excellency the Governor General directs it to be notified that a letter has been received

from the Warden of the District Council of   Maitland, certifying the return of the under-

mentioned gentlemen to serve as members of | the said District Council of Maitland, viz.

Messrs. John Kingsmill, and

John Wilkinson.

At Carroll, from Gunedah, ou the 7th July ;

damages, trespass, and driving, 4s. each :- One bay horse, switch tail, like R off shoulder and thigh, and like EM or ER near shoulder; one bay mare, long tail, white on face, snip nose, HL conjoined off shoulder. If not relased, they will be sold 24 days from this insertion.    

At Murrurundi, on the 7th of July from Page's River ; damages 9d. each :-One black  

horse, star in forehead, some white on near hind fetlock, like 39 off shoulder, if any other brands, not visible ; one bay horse, black points, M near shoulder, S near side neck. Notice being sent to the supposed owner ; one chestnut horse, star in forehead, hollow back, near hind fetlock white, HN over TC or TG sideways off shoulder, like 7 under, illegible brand near shoulder. If not released, they will be sold on the 9th of August.  

At Gulligal, on the 15th of June, from Melvill Plains ; tresspass and driving, 6d. per head :-One strawberry cow, JC off rump, circle off ribs, off ear marked ; one brindle and white cow, GN near ribs, W off rump, ears marked one black cow, JE conjoined off ribs ; one red and white ox, JSA off rump, JA conjoined near shoulder; one red ox, RF off ramp, F near shoulder; one red and white cow, no brand visible, off ear marked ; one red and white cow, illegible brand near rump and ribs, near ear marked ; one yellow and white cow, NC over NC over 8 off rump ; one brown heifer, blotched

brand over LL near ribs, near ear marked ; one red and white ox, R reversed and R conjoined off ribs, 3 over R off shoulder. And same day from Burburgate-One brown entire horse, JH near shoulder, white face, white spot off rib,

and two hind feet white ; trespass and driving £1 ; one bay filly, star in forehead, and faint brand like JH or J IS near shoulder; driving

5s. If not released in 24 days, they will be sold.

At Mudgee, on the 9th of July, from the purchased land of Nicholas Paget Bayly, Esq., of Lawson's Creek :-One white horse, switch tail, branded like E near shoulder, like E near side of back ander saddle, 6 years old, 15 hands high ; one bay horse, white star on forehead, white spot between nostrils, switch tail, branded BB near shoulder, 4 years old, 15 hands high ; damages 6d. each. Also, at Mudgee, on the 10th of July, from the estate of the deceased William Lawson, Esq., of Bumbira-One ches- nut horse, long switch tail, small white star on forehead, branded apparently WC off shoulder, 4 years old, 15 hands high ; one hay mare, white star on forehead, long tail, branded G8 near shonlder, 3 years old, 15 hands high ; one dark brown horse, white star on forehead, white stripe off nostril, saddle marks on back under saddle healed, switch tail, branded apparently TJ near side of back under saddle, 7 years old, 15 hands high; one bay horse, white star on forehead, switch tail, branded illegible near shoulder, 4 years old, 15 hands high ; damages 6d. each. If not released, they will be sold on the 4th of August. [14s,

At Mudgee, on the 13th of July, from the

estate of the deceased William Lawson, Esq, of Bumbira :-One bay colt, white star on forehead, branded WL over ) off shoulder, illegible brand near shoulder, 2 years old, 15 hands high ; one bay horse, switch tail, saddle marks on back under saddle healed, branded JF with 5 over off shoulder, illegible brand near shoulder, 6 years old, 15 hands high ; one bay horse, white star on forehead, saddle marks on back under saddle healed, switch tail, branded HX near side of back under saddle, illegible brand on near shoulder, 5 years old, 15 hands high ; damages 6d. each. If not released, they will be sold on the 7th of August. [12a.

HEALTH OFFICER.

His Excellency the Governor General has been pleased to appoint Haynes Gibbes Alleyne, Esq., M.D., to be Health Officer for Port Jackson, in the room of Arthur Savage, Esq., deceased.

VACCINE INSTITUTION.

With reference to the Government Notice of

the 11th January, 1847, his Excellency the   Governor General directs it to be notified that Henry Grattan Douglass, Esq , M.D., has been appointed to perform the duties connected with the Vaccine Institution, in the room of Arthur Savage, Esq., deceased.

CLEARING.

Tenders will be received at the Colonial Secre-

tary's office until noon of Monday, the 23rd of August next, from persons willing to contract for the clearing of the whole of that portion of the line of road between Peat's Ferry, on the Hawkesbury River, and Wollombi, which ex- tends from the crossing of the bridle road from Gosford to Kelly's Farm, on Popran Creek, to the head of a long swamp about three miles be- yond Warree Warren, a distance of about thir- teen miles. Tenders to be endorsed, " Tender for clearing Wollombi Road."

Plan, specifications, and forms of tender may be seen, and further particulars obtained, at the Surveyor General's office, Sydney.

PROVISIONS.

The contractors for furnishing supplies for

the colonial service in the districts of Bathurst,

Maitland, Newcastle, and RaymondTerrace,hav- ing, according to agreement, given three months notice that their contracts will terminate on the 30th September next: Notice is hereby given that tenders will be received at the Colonial Secretary's office until twelve o'clock of Monday, the 23rd August, for furnishing from the 1st October, 1852, to the 31st March, 1853, both days inclusive, the required supplies, the parti- culars of which, and the conditions, are specified in the notice from the Colonial Secretary's office, dated 27th January last.

WARIALDA.

The magistrates in Petty Sessions assembled at Warialda, have appointed Mr. John O'Connell Bligh, acting Clerk of Petty Sessions, to be Re- gistrar of the Small Debts Court during the temporary absence of the Clerk of Petty Sessions

on leave.

If not released within 24 days from date of publication, they will be sold. ~ [11s. 6d.
