AUSTRALIANS FOR JAPAN
INCLUSION IN FORCES OF OCCUPATION RAN, Army, and RAAF AUSTRALIAN forces will take part in the occupation of Japan. There will be a composite force of RAN, Army, and RAAF. War Cabinet, meeting in Canberra last night, decided that a naval unit, two Army brigade groups, and three complete air squadrons would operate under an Australian commander, subject only to the control of General MacArthur, Supreme Allied Commander. It was also agreed to offer to share with Britain important command responsibilties in the SW Pacific, and to share in the reoccupation of Singapore and Malaya.
